Shoegaze is definitely back. First I heard rumors of My Bloody Valentine doing an upcomming show at Los Angeles’s El Rey theatre (a 700 capacity venue, nice.) Next I found this great (free) single from NY’s Dead Leaf Echo, who recall a past education through Slowdive, Ride, Lush, The Ocean Blue and My Bloody Valentine. This single could have come out in 1993 (and all the better for it.) When I read that it was produced by 4AD legend John Fryer (NIN, Depeche Mode, Cocteau Twins,) that feeling sorta made sense. A truly lush landscape with echoed vocals, delay wash everywhere, a steady backbeat taking you on the ride across the stars. Check out Dead Leaf Echo’s Myspace page or download the free single HERE
